A while ago, Luna and I were on the road really early in the morning running some errands, when we decided to take detour and go to the beach instead, it was wonderful and so relaxing! We loved it so much that we try to go often, it’s a pain to get up really early but so worth it! This is us enjoying the sunrise.
Luna is the motherly type, she surprises me with random kind gestures like putting my car key inside my purse so I don’t forget or a sweet note inside my notebook. A tea party in her room is one of her specialties. She loves to make tea and decorate her little plates with whatever snack she finds. I could’ve picked a photo with better framing but our face expressions of this one makes me really happy.
The other day my 8 year old daughter was listening to music in her room and it occurred to me how quickly she’s growing up. I remember when I used to listen to my own music and how independent I felt, I wondered if she felt the same way I did when I was her age. I was so relieved to find her playing with her barbies, she is still my little girl! I suppose she will always be. But I also know that things will change and I won’t be able to do the same things we do now, like taking a bubble bath together. That’s the reason I wanted to document our special moments this year. “52 weeks of Celia & Luna” will be a little window into our lives, this is our first self-portrait.
Madrid welcomed us with sunny skies and cool breezes. This city was good to us. We partied, slept til’ the afternoon, got lost, saw amazing art, got inspired, shopped, danced, made new friends, reunited with old ones, ate a lot of tapas; lots and lots of tapas. Life was good. 🙂
I love any excuse to dress up and today I’m feeling patriotic sporting red and blue from head to toe. If times allows me, I’m thinking of adding style posts to the blog, what do you think? I’m not naturally comfortable in front of the camera but I want to share some of my vintage finds, 70% of my closet is 20 years or older! I also want Las Celias to inspire other women to love yourself in any shape and form and what better way than starting with myself, all my curvy self. 🙂

Ahhh Barcelona… We booked a direct flight to Barcelona to catch the Primavera Sound music festival that we’ve always dreamed of attending (more on that below). Friends had assured us that we were going to fall in love with the city and they were absolutely right. What’s not to love? The architecture is amazing! modern and functional, yet very much infused with old-world charm. Public spaces are clean and designed with people in mind. The majority of the streets are landscaped with flowers, pedestrian walkways and bike lanes! (even the trash cans are cute!). It is also populated with many museums, countless little shops, cafes and reliable public transportation. Friends warned us that Catalans are a little off-putting with foreigners and we kinda sensed it a little bit, but found that people were generally friendly and helpful. We can’t wait to go back, there is still so much we want to see!
I decided to use Jorge’s film camera to document my experience. I wanted the hands on practice and I also like that by default I don’t have a zillion photos to edit at the end of our trip since you tend to be more selective when shooting film. I did make a huge mistake when loading a roll into the camera, only to later discover that an entire days worth of pictures I had happily snapped away had been lost! I almost cried… ok.. I DID cry. But Jorge assured me that even the greats make mistakes and that is the nature of film; there’s still a little black magic in the process; you’re subject to the moods of the Photography Gods. In my head, they were the perfect images but hey, maybe they weren’t and I was spared the disappointment. Here are some photos of our week in Barcelona; my favorite city at this moment 🙂
Excuse the following iphone pics, we couldn’t bring a proper camera into Primavera Sound, including the 35mm film camera. The festival was held in Parc Forum, next to the ocean. We walked so much not only sightseeing during the day, but also inside the festival grounds; it was huge! All three nights of the festival generally began around 6pm and ended around 4am, so we did like the natives and took a nap in between sightseeing and tackling the massive size and variety of choices of the festival. Primavera brought together people from all over the world. We overheard every language you can imagine in one place and it was nice to see all these different people united through music and well, quite honestly, partying. I was pleasantly surprised that you didn’t have to make a line to go the bathroom or to get a beer! Portable bathrooms and beer jockeys where everywhere; they definitely had that covered. One of the main reasons we wanted to attend the festival was because Jorge would finally get to see his beloved Blur, probably his favorite band in existence (90s kid). We waited more than 2 hours to be right in front. I sat down and made new friends but Jorge was so excited he wanted to wait standing up. He was the happiest. The last picture pretty much sums up our time there. If you love music, then you need to go to Primavera Sound. At least once in your life.
I remember using film back in college and I was terrible at it, my shots were ok but I was a complete mess developing. I think I got a couple a good prints by the end of the course, prints that my teacher asked to keep! That gave me a little encouragement to keep taking pictures but not so much to try to shoot film photography again haha. Since Jorge (my husband) and I have started our wedding videography business, we’ve been around talented photographers and I’ve noticed that I was drawn to the pictures by film photographers the most. It’s hard to explain why but it feels like each photo carries a sixth sense, there is something magical about them. But then again, how can I not fall in love with my own wedding pictures shot by the amazingly talented film photographer Michelle March? Too difficult not to get inspired.
These photos are from my first (cheap) roll using Jorge’s vintage canon camera, who kindly refreshed my mind and gave me awesome tips. I’m still getting the hang of it but I really enjoyed the process.
I can honestly say that this year has been the best year of my life. Was it because I made wiser decisions now that in my 30s? Or maybe I just got lucky… it may be a little bit of both. All I know is that I’m extremely thankful to have lived it and enjoyed it surrounded by beautiful people, including the sweetest daughter you could ever ask for and my loving fiancé Jorge. I hope you had an amazing year too! If not, cheers for a better 2013!

I’m back! I can’t believe I haven’t blogged since January, I have so much to share but I have to begin with something important… I’m engaged! Who would’ve thunk it? The “I’m never getting married” girl is engaged. This is how it all began: Beached Miami was giving away a trip to Nassau, Bahamas on a cruise but not just any cruise… The Bruise Cruise, I entered the contest and I won! It was one of the best weekends I’ve ever had, if not the best. The Bruise Cruise was SO MUCH FUN, the bands were awesome! We ate like pigs and partied like animals! My man made it unforgettable by proposing to me and it was the sweetest surprise to find out that he made the ring from scratch. He is definitely a keeper!
I saw Plains, Jacuzzi Boys and Sebadoh! Celebrated a friend’s birthday playing with fire and eating yummy chocolate cake. Hit a local thrift store and played with my little one by the bay. We ended the week sipping on Japanese soft drinks that we couldn’t figure out how to open and devouring Mochi ice cream. Sweet week indeed.
