Weekly Musiquita: Luciana Tagliapietra

This album was released in the summer and I’ve loved it ever since. I was listening to it again last night but this time under under a rare chilly Miami night, and it sounded all the better because of it. The colder night air somehow transformed my perception of this collection of songs from something good to utterly wonderful.

Weekly Musiquita: Rita Indiana "Da Pa Lo Do"

I didn’t think It was possible to love Rita Indiana more than I already do, but after watching this video I can’t help but idolize her. The video is about the relationship between Haiti and Dominican Republic. “Da Pa Lo Do” (There is enough for two) delivers a sweet message of fraternity and unity that any country sharing a frontier should identify with.

Weekly Musiquita: Nobelones

[audio:http://u-me-it.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Nobelones-De-Príncipe-a-Ratón.mp3|titles=Nobelones – De Príncipe a Ratón]

Nobelones is the name of a new collaboration between my boyfriend and I. We like to break up words and come up with new ones, in this case Nobelones means: NOvios (couple), BEllos (cuties) comeLONES (gluttons). Our first song is called “De Principe a Raton” (from prince to mouse). The song is basically the Frog Prince story in reverse, when you realize your prince charming has turned into a mouse but you’re not sad about it, instead you want to dance alone.
You can download the song from our bandcamp page. I hope you like it!

Weekly Musiquita: Fifteen Years Old

Fifteen years old is the new project of a talented peruvian, Solange Jacobs. I didn’t know anything about her until I stumbled upon her new ep called “The Image Lovers”, after listening to it, I was surprised to know that this kind of music was being made and listened in my country. I’m really proud, I hope it’s contagious and continues with other acts. You can download her ep for free here.

Weekly Musiquita: Helado Negro

You say Helado, I say where?
Helado Negro (Black Ice Cream) is Roberto Carlos Lange, a composer and sound artist born to Ecuadorian parents. I was pleased to find out that Lange makes music as cool as his yummy and intriguing stage name. I don’t think I can listen to “Regresa”, the first single of his recently released album “Canta Lechuza” without dancing in my seat. After following some links, I also discovered his previous album “Pasajero” where he covers songs that I used to listen when I was little, including my mom’s favorite “Celia”, which BTW is also my name.

Helado Negro – Pasajero – 06 Celia

He also covered “Rosa, Rosita”, interpreted by Brazilian artist, Roberto Carlos back in the day. This one is dedicated to my dear friend RO, who is as sweet as the song.

Helado Negro – Pasajero – 04 Rosita

You can download “Pasajero” for free here, and you can buy “Canta Lechuza” here.

Weekly Musiquita: Los Amparito & Balun

I’ve been listening to music in spanish lately and I’ve been lucky to find these two amazing acts. Los Amparito is an electro-folk band led by music engineer Carlos Pesina. They are often compared to Animal Collective and Panda Bear and I must say that besides the obvious commonalities that I like from these bands, I truly enjoy the use of traditional Mexican music used in Los Amparito songs. Unfortunately, they don’t have an album out yet but you can download most of their songs for free here. Another band that I instantly fell in love with is Puerto Rican symphonic experimental pop band Balun. The lead singer, Angélica Negrón is a talented multi-instrumentalist that sweetens every song with her gentle voice and beautiful arrangements. “Medio Contenido” is their new EP and you can stream it here.
